Made as part of the GNC Pro Performance Series, this is an all natural testosterone booster claimed to promote:

  • Testosterone
  • Libido
  • Muscle Performance

But how well does it really work?

In this review we look closer at AMP Test 1700 to see how effective it really is.

This is what you need to know:

How are the servings?

Needs improving.

With only 2 servings a day, you’re won’t be giving your body a constant enough supply of the nutrients it needs to raise testosterone.

The effects of each serving wears off after a few hours – so to keep the effects constant you need to keep the supply as regular as possible.

This means, ideally, you need 3 – 4 servings a day. This keeps the nutrient supply regular and your T levels constantly on the rise.

However, even if the servings are good, the ingredients need to be good too – and unfortunately in AMP Test 1700 – it could be better…

What about the ingredients in AMP Test 1700?

Not that great.

There are a handful of effective ingredients in this product – but a hell of a lot of ineffective ones.

There are a lot of ingredients here that have been chosen from outdated research.

Here’s what you need to know about the main ingredients:


One of the better options for free flowing testosterone.

Magnesium has been in several studies to impact SHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin) which could help to raise testosterone.

SHBG is a protein in your blood stream that binds to testosterone and strips it of its anabolic potency – making it useless.

By inhibiting the protein, magnesium reduces the effects of SHBG, and allows more T to flourish.


One of better minerals for testosterone production.

Zinc has been seen in numerous studies to be used in reactions in your brain to create the luteinzing hormone (LH).

LH is the precursor to both growth hormone and testosterone.

This is a good addition to AMP Test 1700, but we would’ve liked to have seen more – 1mg won’t make too much of a difference.


A traditional Indian herb which has been seen to boost libido.

Fenugreek has been seen in numerous studies to help raise male sex drive, while also having a mild effect on blood sugar levels, and insulin.

With less insulin in your system (a hormone that interferes directly with testosterone) your T levels have more opportunity to rise.


One of the better ‘indirect’ testosterone boosters.

Ashwagandha works by lowering your body’s overall levels of cortisol – this is the stress hormone, which has been seen to directly affect and lower testosterone.

By lowering your cortisol levels, your T has more potential to rise.


A poorer option.

Tribulus is aggressively marketed as a testosterone booster by supplement companies – but the actual effects are far from good.

Studies have shown that supplementing Tribulus has little effect on testosterone and at most mildly boosts libido.

Deer Antler Velvet

Another poor option.

Deer Antler Velvet is an exotic nutrient that many believe is an effective testosterone booster – however studies have shown otherwise.

There is no confirmation of DAV raising testosterone at the moment. We consider it nothing more than a gimmick.


Sadly, the blend doesn’t get any better from here on in.

Chrysin is a mushroom extract that has only been seen to raise testosterone in one study – when it injected directly into the subject’s testicles.

It has have never worked with oral supplementation – and you won’t notice the difference.

Tongkat Ali

Also known as LongJack – and again, not a great option.

Despite being aggressively marketed as a testosterone booster in the supplement industry – there have been very little studies come forward to show the benefits of supplementing LongJack.

It does not boost testosterone, at most, it may be able to mildly raise libido.


A slightly better choice.

DIM is an extract from vegetables like leafy greens and broccoli.

The belief is that it may work as an aromatase inhibitor (estrogen suppressant) however there has been no evidence to confirm this – although the research at the moment is looking promising.

Mushroom Blend

A proprietary blend of different mushrooms.

This isn’t a great option either. Mushroom has been seen in all its various forms (like Chrysin) to have no effect on testosterone when supplemented orally.

It will have no effect here.

Ingredients Bottom Line:

On the whole, this isn’t the best nutrient profile we’ve seen in a testosterone booster.

The only core nutrients here are the magnesium, zinc and Fenugreek. After that the choices seem to be either ineffective or just a mild supporter.

The main thing AMP Test 1700 really needs are more core t-boosting nutrients; Vitmain D3, D-Aspartic Acid, Oyster Extract, Ginseng – they’d all be better placed in this product.

It’s not the most effective product out there.

Side Effects

Despite the poor nutrient choices – we haven’t noticed, or heard reports of side effects associated with AMP Test 1700.

It’s not harmful, but it’s not that effective either.
